W4AES Orlando D-STAR Repeater Gateway Operation and Info

W4AES Gateway is now Active!    Click here for CURRENT STATUS

The W4AES Repeater System has G2 Gateway Access. All users accessing onto the new G2 national gateway system will need to register ONLY ONCE. If you choose, you can complete your initial G2 registration through the following link: https://w4aes.dstargateway.org/Dstar.do

You will get a page load error due to security certificate being needed. Just accept the certificate and the page will load normally. It is a secure web page (https) thus the need to accept the certificate. It is important to follow the instructions in order to be setup properly. Any problems email me and I will help you get signed up.

Once you receive an email confirming your registration then you must sign back in through the above link and you must complete the following steps after clicking the Personal Information tab.
Each user must set the first line (1 of 8) to be able to use the Gateway.

1) Check the box next to number 1 to enable editing for the line.
2) Type a SPACE in the box under "Initial".
3) Do NOT check the RPT box.
4) Type your call sign in the "pcname" box in lower case.
5) Click the Update button.

You have now successfully completed the G2 gateway registration process.

Programming your radio by use of the D-Star Calculator http://www.dstarinfo.com/Calculator/

Programming Examples:

Gateway Call to a Individual Last Heard on the Gateway.

URCALL = N0XIA    This will have the local gateway find where N0XIA was last heard, the Trust Server will automatically route your gateway call to the last module that N0XIA was heard on.

RPT1 = W4AES__B The B (local 440 Repeater) must be in the 8th character position.
RPT2 = W4AES__G The G (local Gateway) must be in the 8th character position.
MYCALL = your call sign.

Zone Call Example: W4AES 442.025 Repeater to KJ4ACN 440 Repeater through the Gateway:

URCALL =/KJ4ACN B
This URCALL entry indicates that you are calling to KJ4ACN 440 Repeater on module B. Please note the leading character is the "/" followed by the repeater call with the module B in the 8th character position.

RPT1 = W4AES__B The B (local 440 Repeater) must be in the 8th character position.
RPT2 = W4AES__G The G (local Gateway) must be in the 8th character position.
MYCALL = your call sign.

With this method you would just call CQ and someone at the other end would use their "one touch" button to program their radio to reply back to you so give a long enough call for the remote user to access his or her radio. The problem with the above method is you could be interrupting a local conversation, you would not know because you cannot hear what is going on there. The next method would be a better choice.

Gateway to Gateway connection (Repeater to Repeater), Both gateways must be running Dplus on their server. Most repeaters are so this should not be a problem or concern. Just try and it will work or it will fail. This is our preferred method for remote calling.

URCALL = KJ4ACNBL
This command takes up every space, "B" is the port (it could be A,B or C) of the distant repeater. "L" tells the local repeater to hard link to the distant repeater.
RPT1 = W4AES__B The B (local 440 Repeater) must be in the 8th character position.
RPT2 = W4AES__G The G (local Gateway) must be in the 8th character position.
MYCALL = your call sign.

To Unlink set URCALL "xxxxxxxU" (x's=spaces), then key your mic. You will get a voice prompt indicating the link has been disconnected.

You must remember to change URCALL back to CQCQCQ after completeing the link otherwise the repeater will keep telling you that you are already linked every time you key up.

Gateway Call to Linked Repeater/Reflectors from W4AES.
W4AES port C is normally linked to Reflector REF001C 24 hours. Port B is available for local or remote use. You should have URCALL set to CQCQCQ when not doing callsign routing or when done with linking commands.

URCALL = CQCQCQ
RPT1 = W4AES__B The B (local 440 Repeater) must be in the 8th character position.
RPT2 = W4AES__G The G (local Gateway) must be in the 8th character position.
MYCALL = your call sign.

Simulcast can be used to transmit across all ports simultaneously.
Simulcast: use "W4AESxxx" to simulcast to all modules (x's=spaces)

Feel free to use the W4AES D-STAR digital repeater and analog repeaters during your visit to Orlando Florida. Both are open for general use and linking is allowed on all of them. The VHF port of the D-STAR repeater is usually connected 24 hours to REF001C, the UHF port B is normally available for linking. The analog repeater is usually connected to IRLP Reflector 9050. Feel free to drop the links if needed. Hope to catch you on the air.
